1) Treating Malaria: Distribution of Treated Nets Malaria was eradicated from the US over 50 years ago, yet it kills 1 million children every year, 90% of them in Africa. In fact, an African child dies every 30 seconds, yet malaria can be treated if appropriate medicine is available. The best current prevention method is through the distribution of treated mosquito nets. One net can protect a family of six for six years. Ubuntu delivers nets to villages and distributes mosquito nets to families identified by the village elders to be the most vulnerable. Families will walk for days when they hear of the distribution in the hopes of receiving a treated net. |

2) Delivery of Medical Supplies Health worker’s ability to treat patients depends on the supply of antibiotics and medicines. A lack of the resources is the leading cause of death particularly in African children.· Medicine The biggest killers are malaria, malnutrition, respiratory infections and diarrhea caused by dysentery. These are 100% preventable diseases that require only basic medicine. In response, Ubuntu purchases discounted medicines, and collects donated medicines to distribute in the health clinic. In addition to providing medicines to treat the major illnesses, Ubuntu treats many forms of common illnesses such as AIDS, whooping cough, cerebral meningitis and measles as well as many other exotic diseases (link to exotic diseases).· Medical Supplies Ubuntu also purchases and collects basic medical supplies such as sanitary gloves and intravenous supplies. Additionally, we hope to purchase medical equipment such as a used sonogram device to provide prenatal care to the women of the region. With this sonogram, clinic workers will be able to identify early problems with pregnancies and alleviate the suffering and death of women. See Exotic Disease List & Links Below |

| 3) Healthcare Education Every year in Africa the rains bring cholera, guinea worm and dysentery due to poor sanitation and lack of clean water. The need for education about simple and basic preventive healthcare procedures such as boiling water and washing hands is essential. Ubuntu provides this health education training to the clinic staff. This staff is now working throughout the region to continue the vital work of saving lives through prevention. |

| 4) Educating and Inspiring American Youth Through speaking at many junior high and high schools, Koor has inspired many students to stay in school and overcome hardships. His message is especially poignant to children who have their own struggles. He tells the students of his life and how “education is now my mother and my father.” He tells them with compassion and firmness “If I can do it, you can too.” With his message of overcoming hardship comes an awareness of larger global issues and the inspiration for students to be responsible in helping to improve the world. |
